"The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb"

Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., had an abortion years ago, and regretted it. Now she’s a leader in the “Silent No More” movement. And although she is an evangelical Protestant, she is one of the top staffers at Fr. Frank Pavone’s Priests for Life organization. Clearly, Alveda King is a woman who thinks for herself, and frustrates those who like to pigeonhole people into easy categories.

Right now, Dr. King is taking some flak for her support of a billboard that presents a tragic and horrible truth in a visually arresting way.

CNS News reports:

Pro-life activist Alveda King reacted to the removal on Friday of a billboard advertisement in Manhattan that featured a black girl and the statement the most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.ԓIt is an outrageous act of censorship that this billboard was taken down, King said. This billboard should be posted in every city of the country.

The billboard messages placement comes in the wake of a report released last month by the New York City Department of Health that revealed an abortion rate of 41 percent of all pregnancies in the city in 2009 — with 59.8 percent of those to African-American women.

The message of this billboard is totally accurate, King said in a statement issued by Priests for Life where she is the director of African-American Outreach. The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb!

She added: And it should provoke outrage in the African-American communitynot because it is racist, but because of the truth it reveals; the truth that is being kept from the African-American community.

The billboard message was a project of thatsabortion.com, which paid for the message as part of its LifeAlways project.

There is a battle being waged in the United States that has taken more lives than any foreign war or act of terrorism, the Web site states about the project. The enemy is abortion.

Its supporters include the main stream media, liberal representatives in government, and Planned Parenthood, the country’s largest abortion provider, the statement says.

The recent “sting” operations at Planned Parenthood facilities in several states brought negative attention to Planned Parenthood at the very time that legislation to cut off federal funding for PP (last year it was $363 million) was being debated in the House (it passed on February 18). And the Gosnell case in Pennsylvania — highlighting as it does the utter complicity of entire departments of state government in illegal activities at abortion clinics — has not helped a business whose cash cow is abortion and which is the number one abortion provider in the nation.

It’s good that we’re finally shining the sunlight of publicity into these dark places and disinfecting them, but one of the worst aspects of Planned Parenthood is only just beginning to crack public awareness: Planned Parenthood’s deliberate targeting of minority women. (Some 78 percent of PP’s clinics are located in minority communities.) In this, the organization is following in the footsteps of its foundress, Margaret Sanger. Sanger was a leader in the American eugenics movement, which Adolf Hitler praised, and credited for helping to develop his thinking about ridding the human gene pool of “undesirables.” Hitler focused initially on the mentally and physically disabled and the mentally ill, before moving on to Jews, homosexuals and the Rom (gypsies). Sanger focused on the mentally and physically disabled and the mentally ill, as well as on African-Americans and other minorities.

CNN reported on Friday that Lamar Advertising, which owns the billboard, decided to take down the message after people who opposed it threatened workers in the building located next to the billboard.

What is it with the Left, anyway? In their eagerness to beat up on people, they’ll even threaten innocent bystanders, who had nothing to do with placing that billboard!

The Rev. Al Sharpton had reportedly planned a protest at the site of the billboard on Saturday and pro-abortions groups had also complained about the pro-life message.

Mary Alice Carr, vice president of communications for NARAL Pro-Choice New York, said in a statement that the billboard was attacking women for choosing abortion while simultaneously destroying family planning.

But King said the billboard should have provoked a different kind of outrage.

Black people in New York and all over the country should be outraged at the numbers of black babies we lose every single day to abortion, King said. An astonishing 60 percent of African-American pregnancies in the five boroughs of New York City end in abortion.

Thats unfathomable, King said.

And it’s unfathomable that anyone is still buying the tired old lie that abortion is about “liberating” anyone.
