"RIP Trish Keenan of Broadcast" and related posts

R.I.P. Trish Keenan of Broadcast

January 14th, 2011

Just yesterday unexpected news came down that Broadcast frontwoman Trish Keenan had been hospitalized for a serious case of pneumonia. Sadly, this morning, the 42-year-old passed away earlier this morning after a two week struggle with the illness. Keenan"s pneumonia was the result of contracting the H1N1 virus during a recent trip to Australia.

Keenan co-founded the band in 1995 and remained the only original member along with James Cargill to date. Broadcast released four LPs, including 2000s seminal The Noise Made By People, two compilation albums and seven EPs. The band"s psychedelic spin on electronic pop was often compared to pioneers like The United States of America and Stereolab, but as the years went by became a sound entirely of their own.

Broadcast"s label, Warp, issued a statement announcing that Keenan had passed, writing:

It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.

Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.

This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace.

According to Warp, a full-length album was in the works as was another North American tour.
