NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Hundreds of dead birds have been found this week in Nashville and nearby counties.
In Wilson County just east of Nashville, around 1500 grackles were found on the side of the road. According to The Tennessean newspaper, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Ageny says they had deteriorated so badly that a lab could not determine the cause of death.
The agency said hundreds more in Nashville and Montgomery County may have been in flocks of thousands that were circling and some smacked into bridges or other obstacles.
Several other mass bird kills have been reported in recent days, including in western Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisiana. Fireworks and other causes have been attributed to the incidents.
