On How Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream Speech" Was Composed

Like James Joyner, I have also always thought of King's speech as an original work, sprung upon a large audience for the first time on the day it was delivered. However, in fact, it was more of a political stump speech, crafted and polished over months and years of delivery.
