And just like that, the matchup for Super Bowl XLV is set. On February 6, 2011 Super Bowl XLV will wrap up the 2010 NFL season as the Green Bay Packers will face the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Packers will be looking to win their fourth Super Bowl, while the Steelers will be looking to win their seventh Super Bowl. Although there is much to dislike about both teams, I'd argue this would likely be the best matchup of the remaining four playoff teams in terms of the quality of football we might see. The Jets probably would have had something to say about that, but I think we're getting a decent matchup in terms of on-field abilities.
Today's games seemed to follow somewhat similar patterns. One team jumped out early�and seemed prepared to run away with the game. The Packers were up 14-0 heading into the fourth quarter and the Steelers were up 24-0 at one point in the second quarter. Their respective opponents fought back and had their chances, but in the end the Bears and Jets couldn't mount the comeback. The games involved some slow times (at one point during Jets-Steelers I switched to Ghostbusters), but they provided a good deal of entertainment in the fourth quarter.
As we sit and prepare for two weeks of hype (with the 2011 NFL Pro Bowl mixed in during the off-week) I'm curious who people will be cheering for two Sundays from now? Will�Bay Area fans root�for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers? Will you somehow find a non-gambling reason to root for the Steelers? Or will you just root for an entertaining football game?
I don't know how Super Bowl XLV will finish but I'd imagine heading in the spread will be as close as any we've seen in recent memory. We'll have a line out at some point tonight and I'm guessing it will be no more than one or two points. Let's hope for some good football in two weeks.
