Dead Crabs Wash Ashore in England

God's feast? - Spy on America.
England seems to be having the same problem with crabs that America is having with birds.

Thousands of crabs have recently washed up along the country’s Thanet Coast. This past year saw over 25,000 velvet swimming crabs on shore, where birds are now feeding on them. Tony Child, Thanet Coast's project manager, states that this is not the first occurrence of its kind.

“It’s been a phenomenon for probably a third year in a row,” he told LiveScience.

The first reports of sightings of crabs along the coast came around Christmas. In 2009, roughly 40,000 crabs washed up along the same location, which is a coastline of chalk reefs in Kent, England.

Scientists have run tests to check for disease or other problems with crabs, but have found nothing as of yet. Child pointed out that the die-offs occurred each year after there was snow on the beaches. The melted snow leads to a drop in temperature near shore, which leads to hypothermia.
